What Are We Missing About Healing? A Biblical Look at Why Miracles Still Matter Today

The Original Language Healing Is More Than a Cure
In the Old Testament, rapha means to restore to wholeness—not just to remove symptoms. In the New Testament, the Greek word sōzō means both to heal and to save. That means when Jesus said, “Your faith has made you whole,” He wasn’t just talking about physical relief—He was talking about full salvation: mind, body, and spirit.
What Did Jesus Mean by “Greater Works”?
“Whoever believes in me will do the works I do—and greater works.” —John 14:12
The Greek word for greater here is megas—meaning greater in scope, impact, and reach. Jesus wasn’t saying we’d outdo His miracles, but that through the Holy Spirit, believers around the world would continue His ministry on a global scale.
The Early Church Saw Miracles as Normal
From Peter healing a lame man in Acts 3 to Paul casting out demons and healing through handkerchiefs (Acts 19), miracles weren’t rare—they were expected. Church fathers like Justin Martyr and Irenaeus recorded healings, deliverances, and resurrections continuing after the apostles.
Why Don’t We See Healing Today?
Many Christians:
Pray for healing but don’t walk in authority
Disconnect healing from relationship and compassion
Rely on hope instead of faith and action
Ignore bitterness, sin, and spiritual blocks
Assume miracles have ceased — even though the Bible says Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8
What Can We Do?
Learn your identity in Christ
Lay hands, speak boldly, and partner with the Holy Spirit
Forgive and repent to clear spiritual blockages
Expect healing, not just wish for it
Walk in intimacy, not just technique
Conclusion:
The power hasn’t changed. God hasn’t changed. But our posture, our faith, and our understanding often have. The miracles of Jesus were signs of His Kingdom—meant not just to amaze us, but to equip us. The world is still waiting for the sons and daughters of God to rise up and walk in healing power.
