Getting Your Heart and Mind Aligned for Unstoppable Faith

Getting Your Heart and Mind Aligned for Unstoppable Faith
Faith is the lifeline of every believer. Scripture tells us, “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26), but how do we strengthen that faith when we’re waiting, contending, and believing for what God has already promised? Let’s walk through scripture and see how God teaches us to align both our hearts and minds for unshakable faith.
Even the Apostles Needed More Faith
In Luke 17:5, the apostles cried out to Jesus:
“Increase our faith [our ability to confidently trust in God and in His power].”
This shows us that even the closest followers of Jesus struggled at times. Yet Jesus reminded them that faith, even the size of a mustard seed, could uproot a mulberry tree with its deep, stubborn roots. In other words, it’s not about the size of our faith but about who we put our faith in.
When We Struggle with Unbelief
Mark 9:23-24 tells the story of a desperate father who cried out, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” That moment reveals something powerful: it’s okay to admit our faith feels weak. God wants us to bring our unbelief to Him. When we do, He strengthens us through His Word and Spirit.
Our minds often imagine the worst-case scenario. But our faith grows when our hearts and minds agree with God’s promises instead of negative thoughts.
Guarding Against Double-Mindedness
James 1:6-8 warns us not to waver:
“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt… Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”
The cure for double-mindedness is found in 2 Corinthians 10:5:
“We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Faith requires discipline. We must read, know, and absorb the Word so that when doubt whispers, the Holy Spirit reminds us of truth.
The Patience of Faith
Faith is not just believing; it’s holding on patiently. The enemy often attacks in the waiting season, trying to convince us that God is silent. Yet Jeremiah 29:12 promises:
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”
God always hears, but He answers in His timing.
The Story of Lazarus: Faith in God’s Timing
Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were dear friends of Jesus. When Lazarus fell ill, they sent for Him. But instead of rushing to heal Lazarus, Jesus delayed His arrival. By the time He reached Bethany, Lazarus had been dead four days.
Mary's faith was shaken: “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” (John 11:21) Many questioned why Jesus hadn’t come sooner. Even Jesus wept, moved by their grief, but He also knew there was a greater purpose.
When Jesus commanded the stone to be rolled away, Martha protested: “By this time, there is a bad odor.” Yet Jesus reminded her:
“Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (John 11:40)
Lazarus walked out of the tomb alive. This miracle wasn’t late; it was right on time to show God’s glory and strengthen the faith of everyone watching.
Faith That Endures
Faith isn’t instant. It grows in the soil of patience, surrender, and alignment of heart and mind. When we choose to trust God’s timing, when we take thoughts captive, and when we root ourselves in His Word, our faith becomes unstoppable.
The story of Lazarus shows us that what looks “too late” to us is never too late for God. His delays are not denials; they are opportunities for His glory to be revealed.
Final Encouragement
Today, if your faith feels weak, pray like the apostles: “Lord, increase my faith.” Pray like the father: “Help my unbelief.” And remind yourself daily: even mustard-seed faith can move mountains when it’s anchored in the living God.
