Bringing Light to Spiritual Warfare: A Personal Testimony

Bringing Light to Spiritual Warfare: A Personal Testimony
by Melania Macias | Trauma Recovery Strategist
Today I want to talk about something that may feel off-topic to some, but in reality, it’s something that isn’t talked about nearly enough. I want to be very clear from the beginning—this is not about glorifying darkness. This is about exposing it so that light can overcome it.
Scripture tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness of this world. This is not symbolic language—it is reality. And once you understand that reality, you begin to recognize how much spiritual activity is happening around us every single day.
The Lord has taught me much about the dark side since I was a child, not because I was meant to fear it, but because I was called to learn how to defeat it and overcome it. Growing up, I lived in many spiritually oppressed places. Most people never see beyond the veil into the demonic realm, but when there is a calling on your life, the enemy will do everything he can to distract you, delay you, or stop you from stepping into it.
What I’m about to share is a true story, one that you truly couldn’t make up.
A Storm, a Decision, and an Old House
Recently, where we live in the Upstate of South Carolina, a large snow and ice storm was headed straight for us. We were unprepared—no generator, and we waited until the last minute trying to find one. We attempted to order one online, but it wasn’t going to arrive in time.
Because both my husband and I work from home, we knew losing power for a week or more wasn’t an option. So we made the decision to leave and head south. We chose Savannah, Georgia—about a five-hour drive—and because it was off-season, we found a beautiful 126-year-old Victorian home within our budget and booked it.
When we arrived, I noticed paintings in each room that made me uncomfortable. I didn’t overthink it—I simply took them down and placed them in the closet. I unpacked, settled into the bathroom and drawers, and before my children went to bed, we prayed Psalm 91 out loud over the house.
We all slept peacefully that night.
Things Begin to Disappear
The next morning, I woke up and realized something was wrong.
My shoes, the ones I wore the entire trip, were gone. Completely vanished. All four of us turned the house upside down. No shoes. Then I noticed my deodorant and razor were also missing. Only my belongings had disappeared.
There was no way the homeowner could have entered; we never left the house after arriving. On day two, with no luck finding my shoes, I had to wear my daughter’s spare pair and later go buy new ones.
That night, I slept alone in the guest bedroom. My husband was tired, and I wasn’t sleepy yet.
That’s when the dream came.
The Dream That Revealed the Spiritual Reality
In the dream, I was in the very room where I was sleeping. The open doorway was covered in thick cobwebs, dense and heavy. I tried to remove them, but instead, the web fell on me. I panicked, fearing a spider was on me.
Over the years, I’ve learned how to take control of my dreams. When animals appear in dreams, especially if there is a threat of being bitten, it matters. The type of animal, the venom, and the rank reveal what kind of trial may be attempting to manifest.
As I removed the web, a massive spider emerged—larger than anything I had seen before, with neon green stripes. Then I looked toward the light and saw another enormous spider on the lamp, glowing with neon colors.
I would not allow them to come near me. I knew that if I was bitten, something destructive would follow.
Discernment and Spiritual Meaning
This dream revealed several things.
First, the open door covered in webs represented an attempt to stop me from moving forward. There was witchcraft being directed toward me—an attempt to entangle, delay, or block my calling.
Second, the dream revealed that something was happening in the spirit realm connected to that house, which explained the dreams and the disappearance of my belongings.
You may wonder why we didn’t just leave.
Because greater is He who lives in me. I will not be afraid.
Why This Matters for All of Us
I’m sharing this because many people do not take spiritual warfare seriously. Yet we wrestle with different powers every single day.
I am sensitive to these things—but more importantly, I’ve been trained in discernment of oppression in objects, places, and people. We must pray and ask the Lord to open our spiritual eyes so we can prepare and stand against the forces of darkness in this world.
For many years, I was taught through dreams how to fight. I’ve reached a place where I can cast demons out in dreams and discern when something—or someone—is being used as a spiritual trap. This even includes food in dreams. It often looks appealing, but when discernment is present, you can see it for what it truly is—rotten and meant to bring harm.
A Word of Instruction and Authority
If you ever have a dream where:
You are eating food
You see cobwebs or spiders
You are bitten by an animal
Cancel the dream immediately. Cancel the assignment in Jesus’ name. Say it out loud.
There is power in your voice. Never forget that.
Blessings to you,
Mel
